Obituary: Peter Hughes

ECA is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Peter Hughes.

Peter was ECA President in the millennium year of 2000, the 87th President since ECA was founded in 1901.

He was a great organiser and networker, relishing his role as Chair of the Conference Work Party (CWP) which organised ECA National Conferences for a number of years until 2013.

With life-long friends across the membership, Peter and his wife Lin were regular guests at social events in many regions until earlier this year.

Peter’s career in the electrical sector spanned many years including with his Berkshire-based family business Hughes Group Ltd. He was very involved in Central South REC and the Thames Valley Branch for many years, including serving as both Branch and REC Chair.

For many years, Peter was Branch and REC Treasurer, remaining as Hon REC Treasurer after his retirement, a role he only recently relinquished.

Peter was awarded the Distinguished Service Award in May 2024 for his contribution to ECA and industry.

All ECA staff and Peter’s former industry colleagues wish to pass their condolences to his family at this sad time.
