Education & Skills

For your company to prosper and grow, you need to be able to source enough staff with the right qualifications and ensure that they can then stay up to date and develop their capabilities further. Through both our skills service offering and representational work, ECA aims to help Members meet their workforce development needs. Key Topics

Apprenticeships

The electrotechnical industry has a proud heritage of delivering high quality apprenticeship programmes, which provide the main pathway into the industry and a platform for higher qualified staff. ECA provide all the information, guidance, and signposting you need to facilitate a successful apprenticeship programme.

ECS Card Scheme

ECS is the skills certification card scheme for individuals working as electricians or in occupations within the wider electrotechnical industry.  It is also a CSCS Partner Scheme.

To apply successfully for an ECS card, applicants must provide evidence of recognised and relevant qualifications and (unless exempt) pass the ECS Health, Safety & Environment (HS&E) Assessment test.

Training Courses

Certsure (a joint venture from ECA and Electrical Safety First) runs an extensive programme of UK-wide short courses for ECA Members, and registrants of NICEIC. The Certsure online training prospectus offers a huge range of short courses and industry recognised qualifications in a range of areas.

Local Skills Partnerships

All skills are local, in that ultimately the effectiveness of training depends on its availability and quality in the geographical area where employer and learner demand for that training exists. Using our existing regional networks, and by creating new ones, ECA is working actively to enhance local provision and strengthen ties between Members and local training and careers organisations.

National Policies and Standards

ECA performs a unique role within the electrotechnical skills ecosystem. As the only industry organisation owned and controlled by contractors, we are the trusted voice of business in interactions with other industry organisations and government.

eCOMS
