The ‘retentions in trust’ Bill launched by Peter Aldous MP last month is set for a second reading in the House of Commons on Friday 27 April. ECA and partner bodies, notably the BESA, have been actively supporting the Bill from the outset.
Many ECA members will be aware that one of the consequences of the Carillion liquidation has been the release of around 1,400 apprentices part way through their training. While the number of mechanical and electrical (M&E) apprentices affected has been comparatively small, JTL has been working hard to place them with new employers.
The Employment Appeal Tribunal (EAT) has held that the implied term of trust and confidence may be breached if an employer misleads an employee about the reason for their dismissal.
