Recognising inspirational talent in engineering and electrotechnical services

Terms & Conditions

Power Players is promoted by The Electrical Contractors’ Association, Lincoln House, 137-143 Hammersmith Road, London, W14 0QL.

Power Players is a new initiative which aims to identify and promote some of the leading young and ‘up-and-coming’ professionals across the engineering and electrotechnical sector, by providing a platform to showcase innovation, excellence and success.

To enter the initiative, individuals simply need to send in a short video highlighting their innovative or impactful work, plus complete all aspects of the short online form. Any false information will lead to disqualification. More details can be found at

All entrants agree to abide by the competition rules of the ECA’s Power Players initiative.

Power Players is a UK initiative, covering England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Power Players is open to anyone aged 39 or below (as of 31 December 2016) who works in the engineering and electrotechnical sector, whether on-site or office based. Anyone from following types of organisation is eligible to enter:

  • Clients and specifiers (eg facilities managers, local authorities, property developers)
  • Consultants and designers
  • Engineering firms (eg maintenance firms)
  • Installers and contractors
  • Manufacturers and distributors
  • Training providers, colleges and universities

Anyone working for an ECA member organisation, or for a ‘supporter’ of Power Players, is eligible to enter.

Anyone working directly for an initiative ‘partner’ – specifically ECA, Electrical Industries Charity and All Things Media, or a ‘sponsor’, if applicable, is not eligible to enter.

  • Judging will be broadly based on the following criteria: 1) Leadership, 2) Collaboration, 3) Innovation / creativity, 4) Industry impact, 5) Societal impact
  • If the judges cannot select candidates deemed to be of suitable calibre, no shortlisting will take place.
  • The judge’s decision over the five shortlisted entrants is final. The judges reserve the right to ask up to 10 potential candidates to undertake a Skype interview, as part of the process.
  • The final five will be subject to a popular vote, via social media, and the decision of the people is final (subject to meeting the T&Cs), and will determine the two winners.
  • The winners will be announced during the ED&I Expo in September 2017.

Study tour

  • The two winners will go on a study tour to the USA in autumn 2018. This is to attend the NECA Conference in Philadelphia, which runs from Saturday 29 September – Tuesday 2 October 2018.
  • The costs of flights, accommodation, entry to the conference and a daily allowance will be covered as part of the prizes.
  • Flights will be arranged and booked by the ECA, and will likely depart from a London airport (e.g. Heathrow or Gatwick), with the final destination of Philadelphia International, and could be subject to a stop on route.
  • Accommodation costs (for a total of three nights) will be limited to £100 per person per day or less (subject to final confirmation by the ECA)
  • The daily allowance will be limited to £60 per person per day or less (subject to final confirmation by the ECA).
  • Any other costs incurred during or as a result of the study tour, including any necessary travel to and from the airport in the UK, must be borne by the individuals.

  • The lunch for the two winners with a business mentor, and reasonable travel expenses, will be covered as part of the prizes. Any other costs must be borne by the individuals.
  • The Electrical Industries Charity ‘fundraising initiative’ prize is provided at their discretion.

Winners will be required to attend and participate in publicity and promotional events and to speak on behalf of the initiative partners and sponsors, including during the USA study tour.
