Working with government and other industry bodies, the ECA seeks to ensure that electrical and other building services contractors influence the development of energy-related initiatives.
The ECA works with industry partners to promote energy efficiency, renewable power, such as solar PV and tidal power, and the development of battery storage as a means to promote lower costs and greater energy security.
Renewable energy
The government is currently reviewing proposals for a tidal bay lagoon in Swansea, which could provide clean, renewable and predictable power for some 120 years. We fully support Swansea Tidal Lagoon and we want to see more of this activity around the UK.
The ECA actively supports solar PV, as an important contributor to the UK energy mix. Last year the government significantly reduced subsidies for solar PV, leading to a considerable reduction in the domestic PV market.
Securing an energy storage revolution
More needs to be done to support both energy efficiency and energy storage. Cost-effective energy storage could literally transform the UK energy landscape.
Fostering an energy storage revolution across the country, would allow for this stored power from renewable sources to then be deployed at times of peak demand, but at much lower cost.
