ECA comments on government's 'Clean Growth Strategy'
New government report sets out draft for Britain's low carbon future
25 October 2017
The government recently announced its ‘Clean Growth Strategy’, with Business Secretary Greg Clark MP describing cleaner economic growth as "one of the greatest industrial opportunities of our time". The strategy sets out a draft for Britain's low carbon future, aiming to 'cut emissions, increase efficiency and help lower the amount consumers and businesses spend on energy across the country'.
Following the publication of the ‘Clean Growth Strategy’, the ECA’s Paul Reeve has commented on what this means for the industry.
“While the Strategy reflects many previously announced statements on energy and decarbonisation, we are encouraged by significant references to energy efficiency and smart energy systems.
"However, we also note there is no reference to supporting tidal lagoons. Ignoring the huge potential of the Swansea Tidal Lagoon in particular would be a lost opportunity to increase the UK’s renewable capacity and energy resilience.”
